His Excellency Sidney Collie, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States and Permanent Representative to the Organization of American States (OAS), will deliver remarks at the official ground-breaking ceremony for the Obokese University in Ghana on Thursday, November 25.
The ground-breaking is being held under the patronage of H.E Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, and Okatakyi Professor Amanfi VII, Omanhen of the Asebu Kingdom.
Ambassador Collie, who arrived in Ghana on Friday, November 20, was invited to speak at the ground-breaking when Nana Obokese Ampah I, Apagyahen of the Asebu Kingdom and Founder of the Obokese University of Excellence, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Collie on October 7 at the Embassy of The Bahamas, 2220 Massachusetts Avenue, N.W., during a visit to Washington, D.C.
According to GhanaWeb.com, during his courtesy call, Nana Obokese “shared his wealth of knowledge on the history of Africa and Ghana, particularly focusing on the Kemetic culture, heritage and resilience of the Asebu Kingdom and his motivation to provide tertiary education with an Afrocentric foundation to the people of Ghana, Africa and the African Diaspora.”
Nana Obokese Ampah I, emphasized that “it is important to educate Ghanaians in Ghanaian culture and education.”
“We must teach our philosophies and heritage to the next generation,” he noted.
Officially launched in May of 2020, the Obokese University of Excellence “will provide a comprehensive, academic and integrated African centered approach to education,” according to GhanaWeb.com. “The African centered education is based on the concept of Ubuntu, ‘I am – Because We Are’ and the Asodzi curriculum that will teach all students the value of ‘responsibility, duty and obligation’.”
According to GhanaWeb.com, “Ambassador Collie was appointed to serve as an Executive Board Member of the Obokese University of Excellence and has been invited to attend the Official Ground Breaking Ceremony in Ghana under the patronage of H.E Nana Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, and Okatakyi Professor Amanfi VII, Omanhen of the Asebu Kingdom.
“Nana Obokese also presented H.E Collie with a sash and bowtie specially made by the natives of Ghana. Nana was accompanied on the visit (to The Bahamas Embassy) by Apostle Evan Ahmed Nyarko, General Overseer of Christ Dynamic Pan African Ministry.”
